Well we’ve made it to the office ‘all clear’ mark of 12
weeks and our fig is ahead of schedule and now a large lime. We went in for the
ultrasound where they do the measurey thing of the back of the neck to see if
we have a child with high risk for Downs Syndrome and the critter was asleep. So
asleep that the ultrasound tech had me coughing, poking, leaning back so I was
nearly upside-down, turning on my side, then the other side, and the hokey
pokey to turn myself about. They had me get up to use the ladies room and while
I was in there I did a few jumping jacks. That seemed to wake the little bugger
up enough that they could get the measurements that they needed and Dad was
able to see the mouth and hands open and close. It was cute to see his
face. We laughed quite a bit about that fact that this kid is already lazy like me in the mornings.
I give you our critter!
Looks pretty much like every other ultrasound blob ever
produced, but it’s our blob. We’re supposed to be super excited because it’s
soooo unique and the nurse practitioner was super excited when telling us all
about how the measurements came in low and how we likely do not need to worry
about Downs. They told us that the critter is growing a bit ahead of schedule at a little over 3 inches from head to rump. We're hoping that the kid gets my height. The nurse got all giddy when making my next three appointments
saying “this is going to go so fast!”. My brain immediately begged to differ
and called her some not-so-nice-names because she doesn’t have to cook the kid.
But it was nice. She was nice. Pregnancy is nice.
