Half way!

It’s official. Half way to the light at the end of the pregnant tunnel. Kiddo went in for the big 20 week check up and lots and lots of pictures to be taken. The ultrasound tech said that we have a very photogenic little one because it was apparently cooperating quite nicely for all the bazillion images they needed to take to make sure that all of its parts are growing how and where they should be. It was nice to hear that we have a cooperative kid… for now. I’m not even close to kidding myself into thinking that is going to last. The techs were also able to see every part, including the important one which tells us if it’s a Fred or Ethel. While they never say they are 100% sure that the gender is what they say, she was able to tell me that she is really really sure. They’re also pretty darn sure that this kid is already weighing in at 12 ounces and in the 65th percentile for doing its growing thing which I am told is good.

Having now got some of my own brains back now that we have entered this glorious second trimester, I’m inching towards starting to be excited. And by inching I mean little itty bitty baby toe inches. It’s not entirely this kids fault that my brains turned all “fuck this, I’m out” so I am trying to make doubly sure that I go ahead and do exciting baby mama things. Case in point, a baby book. I do not have said book, yet. However, in anticipation for such a thing, I grabbed an invitation to the baby shower that our family is throwing for us and asked that the tech write the gender on that. Once she took all the pictures she needed, we left the room and she wrote it down and placed it in the manila envelope along with a picture from the ultrasound indicating the gender. As soon as I got home, I folded the big manila envelope in half and taped it up with heavy duty packaging tape.

This would be bigger than any red carpet event show results type of big. But, in true big red carpet event fashion, I am thinking that instead of a normal every day cookout for the gender reveal that I need to really do it up right. No red carpet needed but  to keep my brains as much moving in the super excited baby mama direction that it needs to go I think it is necessary that we decorate the house. Nothing expensive or over the top, because heaven knows the expense of getting the damn mystery cupcakes made and feeding 15-20 people is enough to make me wanna barf, but just little things that perhaps I can do on a budget that will make it feel more of an event. Something that we’ll want to take pictures of and then add to this kiddo’s book.

Between trying to prepare for the reveal soirée and cramming an entire busy season’s worth of travel into 3 months, this ought to be good. Anyone want to take bets on how much I actually get done? Yeah… I wouldn’t bet on me either.
