I guess this is growing up

I thought it was only fair that I not post about the D-Day and the days after experiences with daycare. We knew that I was going to be a mess about the whole thing so why start sounding the sirens when a good deep breath and a step back might help.

In the non-blog world, I freaked out. After her first day she came home with a diaper rash that had little blisters and actually bled a little bit. To say I was not happy would certainly be considered an understatement. I was near tears. After chatting with several people, and knowing that starting solid foods does change the poop acidity and will likely cause a little something of a rash, I sent her back the next two days with instructions to only use her sensitive wipes and to change her very often. They have been doing that every day and the rash does not bleed anymore and there are no little blisters. Through it all, Lyla has been a champ. She gets there and smiles when you drop her off because she gets to play with all sorts of toys that we do not have at home and watch other kids. When I go to pick her up she is equally full of smiles and the daycare girls in her room are happy to tell me that she had “another great day”. Halfway through week two and I can say that I do not feel the need to call and ask how she is doing twice a day. Or even once a day.

My teenie tiny baby is now also 6 months old. This blows my mind. I can’t believe how fast time is flying and how grown up she is getting already. We even went on our first family camping trip this past weekend and she was a champ! We camped in a big tent with plenty of room for two cots, her pack and play and bed for the two dogs with room to spare. What I wasn’t expected was that we would be camping at about 9,700 feet above sea level. We live at 7,400 feet above sea level so there wasn’t a big deal with altitude but what does come with those extra 2,000ish feet is cold. Cold and wind. I was freaking out that she wouldn’t be warm enough but as it turned out, I was the only wimp in the group. She was toasty warm and woke up the next morning all smiley and happy to be outside with the birds chirping and the sounds of the creek nearby. I think we’re both growing up. And I think we’ll be camping again.
