More than half way through 2015 and I have realized that I
am not doing super great on the blogging thing. I think that being stuck home
alone working has had a lot to do with it. The lack of creative interaction on
any level (including sarcasm) is something that I desperately didn’t know that
I would miss so much. The pals that I have right around me here are nice and I enjoy
seeing them but the constant conversation of baby developments and family BS is
just not super inspiring for the creative half of the brain.
In recent weeks, I have been back on the road and it has
been doing me some good. It was even pretty awesome when I had to take Lyla
with me one week. It feels like I am pulled in every direction possible even
more now that I bring Lyla back with me most times, but looking back it is
super fun that she gets to spend time with her family that lives so far away.
We’re pretty lucky.
After a few days back in the mountains, I was back on the
road again this time to the land of the most famous mouse in the world. This
particular customer puts on a super great show and so despite my traveling
partner not being nearly as enjoyable I had a great time. Got to witness a
super awesome surprise performance from THE Journey and the biggest take away I
had was from seeing a great speech/performance by Erik Wahl. If you can take a
minute and YouTube the man, you won’t be sorry. There are too many of his great
clips for me to choose just one but it really hit home with me. Erik Wahl is a
graffiti artist and super motivational guy. He specifically spoke to a room
full of super square living in black and white sales people and CEO’s and took
us to another place. That place where we likely haven’t been since
kindergarten. That place that occupies the entire second half of your brain.
The creative side. When we have the opportunity to step out of our own boxes
and do something free and creative it feels difficult. For me, extremely
difficult. Through the use of art and music he was able to bring this black and
white lady back into technicolor. And I can’t wait to explore and evolve that
technicolor.
